Cancer Every year in Western Australia alone, around 60 to 70 children are diagnosed with cancer.
While new treatments mean that many of these children will recover from this disease, our research focus is on why some children don’t respond to therapy and relapse. We are also investigating the underlying mechanisms in the development of paediatric brain tumours and ways to reduce their devastating impact. A broader research project is examining genetic, dietary and environmental risk factors in the development of childhood cancers. Our leukaemia researchers are leading the world in improving treatments and finding preventions for this devastating disease. Read more>>
We are working hard to better understand childhood brain tumours so that we can improve survival rates for children and hopefully prevent them from occurring. Read more>> We are part of an international pilot study looking at embryonal tumours and the factors around the time of birth as well as parental exposures that mau increase the risk of developemtn of these tumours.
