Population SciencesWendy OddyAssociate Professor Wendy H Oddy (B App Sci, MPH, Ph.D)
Wendy Oddy completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition in Toronto, Canada (1979), a MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Western Australia (1994) and her Ph.D in nutritional epidemiology from the University of Western Australia (2000). Her thesis was based on a longitudinal study of infants and children investigating the long-term health effects of early infant feeding. She now leads the program of nutrition research on the West Australian Pregnancy Cohort (Raine) Study and is Chief Investigator of a National Heart Foundation/ Beyond Blue competitive grant investigating associations between dietary factors, metabolic syndrome and child mental health (2009-2011).
Dr Oddy obtained PhD scholarship funding from Healthway, and a Public Health Australia postdoctoral fellowship from National Health and Medical Research Council Australia (NHMRC). This work titled ‘The nutritional epidemiology of childhood asthma’ was selected in August 2006 as one of ‘Ten of the Best’ research projects completed in 2004. In 2005 Dr Oddy was awarded an NHMRC Career Development Award to continue work into the nutritional effects of child development. She is currently Senior Research Fellow at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research and University of Western Australia where she directs the program of nutrition research, reviews for numerous international journals and supervises PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows in writing for scientific publication, as well as grant, scholarship and fellowship funding. To date, Dr Oddy has over 75 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and is on the Review Board of 26 scientific journals.
