Research

• Undertaking and supporting research into Aboriginal maternal, child and family health that accords with the informed priorities of Aboriginal communities;

• Facilitating high quality research that is community-based and culturally relevant;

• Vesting control of Aboriginal research with the Aboriginal community.

Capacity Building

• Increasing the number of Aboriginal health researchers;

• Developing the capacity of Aboriginal people to conduct high quality research and implement its findings;

• Developing the capacity of mainstream researchers to conduct culturally appropriate research in Aboriginal communities.

Information Dissemination

• Disseminating and expanding knowledge of Aboriginal maternal and child health issues among health professionals, government and the general community;

• Transferring research knowledge and information to and between Aboriginal communities;

• Facilitating the translation of research findings into policies and practice that benefit Aboriginal communities, and seek to improve the health of Aboriginal people.

Advocacy

• Acting as an advocate for Aboriginal children and families in public policy development and commentary;

• Ensuring research is conducted in a way that can influence health policy and that decision makers across a range of settings are aware of research findings.
