Support for students

Institute Student Reference Group (SRG)
The Institute Student Reference Group (SRG) was formally established in July 2004, combining several previous arrangements which aimed to support research students, their supervisors and other mentors at the Institute. “Research students” in this context comprise research higher degree students, honours students, and students undertaking a research project within an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.

The terms of reference of this group provide for support to Research staff and students and coordination of activities including: Student recruitment; liaison with enrolling Universities; policy development and the provision of advice on related matters.

The composition of the group includes the following members: Assistant Director (convener); Head, Administration and Corporate Services; Manager, Human Resources; Publications and Information Services Officer; Development Office representative; Population Sciences Research Support Coordinator; Clinical/Biomedical Sciences representative; Student database coordinator; Kulunga Research Network representative, and up to 6 current postgraduate students.

Institute Postgraduate Students
This is an informal group for Institute postgraduate students that meets on the last Friday of every month. Originally formed because of the isolation of the Institute from the wider university community, the group meets for a cup of coffee, a muffin and a chat about all that is life as a postgrad student. Discussion includes everything from technical issues to funding, where to find resources, as well as anything else that may be bugging people. Members within the group also provide feedback to the SRG on any collective issues raised by students at the Institute.
