Study environment

Ninety per cent of the research higher degree students who commenced study at the Institute between 2001 and 2005 have completed or are continuing their degree, highlighting the successful retention rates of students at the Institute. This success may be attributed to a range of factors, which include:
  • the Institute's excellent facilities including the creation of student workspace facilities
  • reputation of the leading scientists
  • student support groups and performance recognition opportunities, such as travel awards and top up scholarships
  • the ecouragement by the Institute of conference attendance by students
  • a friendly and interactive work environment and culture with an active social club.
Throughout a student's candidature, the Institute will provide sufficient office space and facilities to complete the agreed program of research. The Institute also coordinates an internal professional development program for both students and staff.
The Institute welcomes postgraduate students from other countries. The University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, Curtin University of Technology and Edith Cowan University have overseas enrolment programs.
