Scholarships, Fellowships and AwardsThe Institute encourages students to apply for scholarships to support their studies.
External Scholarships
Another useful site is JASON - Joint Academic Scholarships Online Network. JASON is a database for postgraduate scholarships and could be helpful if you are a postgraduate, or a postgraduate-to-be, in search of scholarships funded by Australian or overseas universities, Federal or State governments, foundations or the private sector.
Applications for APA’s and University Postgraduate Scholarships must be made through the enrolling university. Institute supervisors can, and usually prefer to, assist in making the application and in advising on the schools for enrolment. Applications for non-university scholarships can be made through the Institute with the assistance of the supervisor.
Internal Scholarships and Supplementary (‘Top-up’) Stipends
In general, the Institute does not offer full competitive scholarships to attract students, although on occasion special funding can be made available from grant or other funds for a targeted scholarship. The Institute does offer some competitive scholarship top-up awards for PhD students. With the support of the Stan Perron Charitable Trust, the Institute established in 2004 the Stan and Jean Perron Award aimed at supporting exceptional postgraduate research students undertaking their research at the Institute. The awards take the form of 'top-up' stipends to accompany scholarships won by the recipients through partner Universities. The stipend is $5000 per year, paid in conjunction with the scholarship for the duration of the scholarship. The ranking of applicants takes into consideration undergraduate academic record (including Honours grade) and other indicators of research potential or achievement as identified in the curriculum vitae. Supplementary Award Qantas New Investigator Award
The Qantas New Investigator Award is an annual award that recognises early career excellence in Institute students or postdoctoral scientists with less than five years experience. The award is based primarily on the excellence of their research projects. We are proud to have the support of Qantas who provides funding for the recipient to attend an international meeting and visit overseas research groups. This travel award is offered annually by the Institute and is valued at $4,000. For further information about scholarships, fellowships and awards, please email study@ichr.uwa.edu.au
