AchievementsAsthma
Asthma is a complex disease to understand and treat. The Institute’s asthma research is unique because it coordinates scientific, clinical and population-based research to discover how asthma develops in the infant and young child. The aim is to break the molecular cycle that initiates the disease process, ultimately preventing asthma. Institute researchers have identified key elements of dust mite and cat allergens.
In 2006, the Institute launched a trial of a world-first vaccine to prevent asthma in high risk children.
